Hey AABMW. I was wondering if some kind soul might be able to help me out:
About 6 months ago I bought a ‘86 325e…from a nice, middle-aged, married lady
who had had the car since new, right out of college, and just could not hold
onto it anymore simply for sentimental reasons. It was in very clean shape,
inside and out, with 122k. I’d heard this was nothing for a well-maintained
BMW, and the mechanic I had check it out(from a reputiable BMW shop) said it
was mechanically sound and in good shape. I wasn’t sure how long I might be
holding onto it, but I’ve taken a real liking to it, and until I can afford a
new one(Z3 maybe), I’d like to whip it back into shape. You know, spend some
time and money getting it back to the "ultimate driving machine" it once was.
Problem is, I don’t know that much about BMWs, or really cars in general. So
what I was wondering is some kind soul, who really knows there way around the
‘ole beemer, might be able to act as a "guru" of sorts, for a newbie. Rather
than bore the NG with my tiresome, amatuer questions, I’ll simply look for
someone to E-mail with the offer to help and answer some questions about where
to start, etc. Thanks for indulging me this far. I look forward to following
the NG as my interest in my new baby grows.

I have had an 84 533i for about 3 months now and have thus-far
enjoyed the car very much, but I have a question. Since I got the
car, the brake lamp warning LED in the overhead panel comes on as soon
as I start the car, and will not reset. I have not thought that much
of it (it has become standard for me to hit the ‘test’ button to
silence the dash flasher as soon as I start the car).
Then today a headlamp burned out (follow me with this for a
second…) and I discovered that when you fix a problem, the LED
*does* in fact go out and not return! (imagine my suprise!<G>)
Anyway, my brake lights are working fine, all contacts polished and
greased. I have measured the resistance across both bulbs (ie. from
plate to plate=<5ohms).
I am looking for anyone who may have wiring diags. or
information that could tell me how the diag. board senses for the
problem. I assume that I have a wiring problem here and am open to
all sugestions. Thanx!

Hi. I have a 1982 733i with over 180,000 miles. Will using higher octane
gasoline such as Chevron Supreme improve fuel consumption and reduce
emmissions, or am I just wasting my money and should just stick to mid-octane
gasoline? Thanks.

After rain or washing the car, the carpet on the driver’s floor gets wet.
No sunroof.
Any ideas out there?!
