I have a 1980 320i and I am having fits. I was on the highway and
started losing power then finally just pulled off the road and died. Ahh
fuel filter you say! So did I! No go! I have run a wire to the fuel pump
and it works. But I can’t say that I hear it when I turn the engine
over. I am thinking maybe something electrical but cannot find the faq’s
to answer them. I read about a 15 plug diag. and a 20 plug. Mine is 9
plug. Help.

Check the submersible pre pump in the tank. Tha supplies fuel to the main
pump first and has a much higher failure rate. Remove the back seat to
access it. the electrical connectors on the pump get corroded easily.
also, remove the pump and check where the ground is staked on to the pump.
This rivet loosens up frequently.
Have a hi day.
