No I dont think the motor is not damaged, had the same problem on my e36
last week . I fixed it myself, Here is what I did :

1. take off the plugs covering two hex nuts(under the door handle), You will
need
a Hex 20 to unscrew them.
2. pry off the bottom of the door panel, eventually the whole door panel
will
come off (Held by clips)
a. I didnt even bother unhooking the wires to the speakers and mirror
control
and just moved the door panel to the side.

3. with the window half way down you will notice an arm which connects to
a pivot has come off.
4. put the arm back onto the pivot and replace the clip which has most
likely fallen off and is sitting on the bottom of the door.
5. I did this fix in 15 minutes and have never done this before.... So if
you want to tackle it you should have no problem provided you have at least
worked on your car before.........

Christopher

- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -
C.E.
The window motor must be "initialized" before it will work properly. If
battery voltage to the window is lost while a door (if a two-door model)
or window is open, the toll (auto up/down) features are lost. The
window motor simply doesn't know where it is or what it is supposed to
do.

Fortunately, the fix is easy. All you need to do is lower the window
completely, release the window switch momentarily, and press the switch
again as if to lower the window. If that little procedure doesn't wake
up the toll features, you just might have a problem.

The power sunroof works similarly.

-Jim

- Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -
C.E.
