door tumber needed for '82-88 five series

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:40 am

Does anybody have a drivers side door tumbler they don’t need anymore?  This
is for a 1985 524 TD.  If possible can you take a pic and send it to me so
we can be sure were on the same page.  Thanks,  ben

  1. Unfortunately, I don’t have one for you but your post reminded me that I
    need one for a 1987 325.
I’ve had no luck finding one for a while now – so if anyone has a door
    lock cylinder for a 1987 325 (’85 – ’90) I’d really appreciate it if
    you’d contact me at :  dk…@earthlink.net .  I have a picture of the
exact part I need and can send it to anyone for comparison.
Good idea, Ben, to get a pic to make sure it’s the correct part.  I
purchased one from someone that was "sure" it would fit my car – it
    didn’t, so I’m out the $$!.
Rather than re-write the post, I’ll admit my stupidity (or half-awake
state) as I just realized the one that was sent to me was (If I remember
correctly) from a 1985 – 5 series.  I’ll take a picture of it and send
    it to you!

  2. Unless the cylinder is missing or the body is broken you can replace the
bits in it and set it so you don’t need an extra key. The kit comes with all
the parts and you just remove them one at a time and replace it with the
    matching number.

I bought a "repair kit" from the dealer for my ’88 535i a few years
ago.  Wasn’t cheap (about $50 iirc) but had everything I needed to fix
my door lock.  I don’t remember what the exact part was that was
broken but the repair kit had that, a new cylinder, and a set of
    tumblers as well.
