Hi everyone,
I recently got my wife a 97’318ti, and was wondering if I have any optional
power modifications for that cute little four cylinder from either BMW
themselves, or another reputable aftermarket company. Of course I assume that
there is no such modifications that would keep my existing warranty intact,
but if there is that would be my first choice. I am new to BMW as well as
this NG (I’m a Jeep guy at heart;-)…and in the beginning my wife had the
hardest time convincing me to get rid of my 4 Wheel drive truck for this
little Black car. I must say that I have grown quite fond of that little car
in a short period of time and find myself craning my head to look at every
bimmer I see, I’m already planning on getting myself an M5 next year! (of
course I’ll never get rid of the Jeep though:)Anyway, thanks in advance for
your help!
Scott

Getting a ti for your wife – and a M5 for yourself… Hmm, well…. =)
Anyway. Powermods comes in different flavours as you probably allready know.
The simplest ones like K&N airfilter and Sports exhaust system will not void
your warranty, but will in turn only increase power slightly (but it will
though). Next step could be to get some chip-trim carried out. This will
void the warranty in most cases (if you don’t go for Alpina options) but in
turn give you quite some improvement. Then there are various turbo kits, but
I don’t like them as they tend to increase gas consumption too (on the other
hand, maybe you care less about that).
K&N and sports exhausts are sold on most auto-trim shops.
Alpina program is sold by BMW.
Turbos come from many different sources. Hard to tell which is better. I’ve
seen some threads about this in this very newsgroup so if you go to
http://www.dejanews.com and do some research you might strike gold.
At last: Maybe you want to swap your Jeep for the upcoming BMW SUV when it
will be avaialbe in a year or two? Just a hint if you plan to replace the
jeep too… =)
Good luck,
Sailthorpe

You also might want to check out Sebring. They make a supercharger
kit for the 318ti using the same blower that is in the SLK roadster. Their
web page is http://www.supercharger.com
They’re claiming 215hp. I’ve never seen a ti with this kit, but I’d be very
interested in hearing from anyone that has.
