Question about BMW M3 Convertible

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:30 pm

Do they have BMW M3 convertibles in Europe ? Is it possible to get one
here in United States ? Any more information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

  1. M3 convertibles are available in Europe, I have not yet seen or heard of a
genuine one making it to the states, however, I have worked on one that is
an M3 convertible in every respect other than the VIN.
The car started life as a 318, the buyer also bought a rolled M3 and
transferred everything over. Even bought the extra body stiffeners ALA M3
convertible, and had them welded in.  It looks great, drives great, and I
would have it in a heart beat.

  2. Yes they have had M3 convertibles in Europe for a while.  To get one into
the US is impossible.  Of course you could buy diplomatic status from a
not-too-serious country.  These diplomatic status are for sale regularly
    in European Newspapers.

The BMW M-GmbH used to produce close to 300 M3 Convertible of the E30-series.
After the new E-36 M3 was introduced and people wanted the Convertible, they
offered the M3 Cabrio as well as the 4-door-sedan M3. It is still available at
the German BMW-dealerships (now with the 321 bhp-engine).
I do not  know anything about the export to the U.S. But isn’t the brandnew
M-roadster (built in Spartanburg,OH) available in the U.S.? This seems to be a
    pretty mean machine.
May be you find some more information at <http://www.bmw.de>.

No M3 convertibles from BMW, but some real BMW fanatic had Race Marque
systems build an M3 Cabrio out of his 325.  I read somewhere that the end
cost was almost 100 grand.  I’d love to replace my old 325iC, but even I
know that even if I had that kind of money, there are better options.

    Dear Ruscher,

Please note that Spartanburg is located in South Carolina!  The Mercedes
Group has just completed their plant in Alabama, which is another
Southeastern US location not very far away.  It seems that when the best
Automobile builders in the World went looking for the best place in the
USA to construct new automobiles, they decided on the "Southeastern
Woodlands" and the very fine people that live here!  You can be assured
that BMW’s and Mercedes that come from this area will be of the highest
quality, and meet any standards set by the European Parent Companies.

As far as Ohio goes, oh well, I wouldn’t care to live there!

  6. I think the real reason that manufacturers are choosing the South eastern
states is the fact that taxes and wages are low. I doubt it has anything to
do with any mythical exceptional qualities that South Easterners posses
    over any other area.

  7. The real reson they choose the south is lower property costs, excellent
transportation and the fact that southern states are "right to work"…no
    unions to deal with.

Once again we have a situation where people are not making it clear when
they are speaking of BMW’s for sale in the US versus Europe (or CA or NZ,
etc.). The M3 convertible is not for sale (yet) in the US, ditto the
higher powered engine, ditto other things. I seem to recall a rumor that
we will see the convertible here maybe this fall. The Europeans will
apparently (according to May R&T) see a new M3 this fall with more room in
the back seats, but weight held down by using aluminum ala the 540i, but
we will have to wait at least until next Spring for that.
