wet floor 76 2002

After rain or washing the car, the carpet on the driver’s floor gets wet.
No sunroof.
Any ideas out there?!

Check the drain tubes (there are 3; left, center, & right) for the air
box at the base of the windshield.  They clog easily and water coming
in the grille at the back of the hood won’t drain where it’s supposed
to.  They’re also very easy to clean out.

    Philip,

    The following might cause that:

    -Leaking windshield seal.
-Leaking weatherstripping around doors and windows.
-Blocked rubber drain pipes (the three rubber tubes under windshield wiper
motors get clogged up with 20-something years’ worth of dirt and gunk, causing
water to drain elsewhere – usually down firewall and onto your floorboard).
    -Leaky/rusty pedal box.
    -Leaky sunroof/blocked sunroof drain tubes

    Hope this helps!

Yeah, the front windshield seal can leak around the corners, then it dribbles
down inside to the floorpan. If it’s a ’76, chances are it’s still the
original seal. Get a new seal & the silver bead to go into the seal, have
a glass shop replace the seal, & if theres no rust at the pinch welds (mine
had a little ) the glass shop might guarantee no leaks. Mine they wouldn’t
because of the rust, but it sealed OK anyways, and I no longer had wet floors!
The seal cost about $35 & a few $$ more for the bead, but that was about 8
years ago & I bought it from MESA Performance in Costa Mesa, CA mail order.
I later changed the rear window seal for the same reason, only it leaks onto
the rear deck above the rear seat. I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself,
unless you have some experience though………………Cya   Dan Valega

  4. Check your body seam seals under the dash & behind the rear seat. In
1976 BMW stopped using what was a good body seam sealer. As a result all
the 76 through to about 1980 BMW’s suffered from sever rust at the body
seams. If I recall the original sealer had to be replaces in 76 because
it was a health threat to the workers handling it when it was in its
liquid state. It took a few years to find a suitable replacement.
If you are lucky the seals have dissolved at the welds and rust hasn’t
set in yet; in which case you can spray with rust paint and seal with
    silicon.
Most likely you will find two rusty and crusty edges where a weld once
was and you may require body work.

  5. I don’t know where the car’s run, but in S. Fla, ’02′s have a nasty tendency
to corrode right behind the pedal box.  Check that area for corrosion holes
just to be sure.  Every ’02 I’ve seen on the east coast has either had holes
    here or has been patched.
    Hope I helped.

Just back from my holiday I happely saw that there were several
replies on my question about water on my floorparts of my 1974 2.5 CS.
Because I´m suffering a tremendous jet lag at the moment, I haven´t
    checked al the suggestions.
I´ll try to send the saved suggestions to you, but I have first to
find out how to forward this to you. Within a few days I´ll find a way
to do it (if not I’ll type them again and post the reactions)
Anyway, I think it has something to do with clogged drain tubes.
